For the 2026 Kingston Design Show House, we transformed a guest bedroom into the “Tween Suite Dreams".

The space is inspired by that pivotal stage between childhood and adolescence, when innocence and independence exist in palpable tension, when one’s identity is truly beginning to emerge. The bedroom of a tween is perhaps the most sacred bedroom of all, as nothing is more valuable than a closed door. 

Throughout, playful whimsy is balanced with brooding undertones, reflecting the emotional complexity of an age defined by imagination, introspection, and self-discovery. That narrative is expressed through furnishings that are both fanciful and practical. An antique hand-painted headboard with storybook floral motifs defines the room. We leaned into the room’s existing architecture, preserving the original mid-century wood paneling. This nod acknowledges the era when the tween first emerged as a distinct consumer market and became an invitation to explore tween personhood across decades.

Jennifer Salvemini, a life long student of anthropology and philosophy designs from a passion for aesthetic expression in all areas of culture.  She has a deep appreciation for meaningful sensory experiences, and finds joy in creating these experiences for others.  Jenn has been designing happy homes in the Hudson Valley and NYC for over a decade.

Nicola Whiteley is the Hudson Valley based seamstress behind Saved Finery, specializing in custom window treatments, curtains, and throw pillows with a particular focus on reusing and reimagining found fabrics — from off-cuts sourced through the local upholstery industry to forgotten fabric remnants found secondhand.
