Meet our team

Jennifer Salvemini

CREATIVE DIRECTOR

As Creative Director, Jennifer has led our team in exploring all facets of our truly unique brand identity, providing the contemplative vessel for our work.  Jennifer’s aesthetic sensibilities serve as the guiding principle, ensuring our products and services are, indeed, referentially modern - a stylistic direction where old and new are engaged in an intimate and ecstatic conversation.

At her core, Jennifer Salvemini is a student of anthropology and philosophy.  Her academic endeavors evolved into a passion for aesthetic expression in all areas of culture - from architecture to mythology, textiles to cuisine.

These pursuits are expressed in her practice as an Interior Designer, her role as Executive Director for the Kingston Design Connection, and as our Creative Director here with Studio Hinterland.   Jennifer has also recently starred as the lead designer for HGTV’s new series, Who’s Afraid of a Cheap Old House? (now streaming).

Jennifer is also the founding member of Community Hinterland, a collective of female identifying artists, makers, designers, and growers based in the Catskills, NY.  The organization supports its members by cultivating a happy and healthy creative life, as well as developing programming that fosters connection, collaboration, and merriment.

Katie Westmoreland

PAINTER & PATTERN DESIGNER

Katie Westmoreland is an artist based in New York, NY. She draws upon her family’s legacy of quilting and studies of alternative photography processes to create paintings, textiles, installations, and hand painted walls.

Katie is interested in the way pictures form over time, how shadows change shape as leaves blow in the wind, and how we account for the experiential phenomena of such events. She gathers source material through extended studies of specific places and chance encounters with forms of dynamic light filtration, such as the alpenglow effect or light and shadows cast upon a sidewalk. As material distillations of location, time, and perception, the artworks explore layers of intimacy with ourselves, each other, and the world around us.

As Studio Hinterland’s painter, Katie specializes in creating wallpaper, hand-painted walls, and hand-painted curtains. With verdant, expressive botanicals interpreted into traditional applications, the Fever Dream collection exemplifies the intersection of a wild meadow and a structured English garden.

Babs Mansfield

AROMATICS DESIGNER

Babs Mansfield (Phoenicia Soap Co) designed and formulated Studio Hinterland’s Aromatics. Inspired by shared memories, the Aromatics line intends to transform hosting into connection.

Alison Zavracky

FURNITURE DESIGNER

Alison Zavracky is a Hudson Valley based furniture and hardware designer. She discovered her passion for furniture and functional objects while working as a rendering artist post-college for Vicente Wolf Associates, a prominent New York City interior design firm.

Alison studied Scandinavian furniture design in Copenhagen, Denmark, and earned her master’s degree in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Alison refined her aesthetic while working for John Boone Inc., a high-end furniture design company located in the NYC D&D Building. She has been detail-obsessed ever since.

As Studio Hinterland’s furniture designer, Alison specializes in creating handcrafted furniture, decor and bespoke hardware that is both beautiful and functional. Blending artistic, imaginative concepts with practical solutions, the Clovelea Collection is at once reminiscent and modern.

Nicola Whiteley

SOFT GOODS DESIGNER

Nicola Whiteley is a Hudson Valley based seamstress focusing on reusing & reimagining found fabrics. Nicola's work makes use of abandoned textiles, from off cuts generated by the local upholstery industry to long abandoned projects found at yard sales, even fabric deserves a second chance.

Community Hinterland

Studio Hinterland is also the invisible hand behind Community Hinterland, a growing community of female-identifying markers, artists and designers. The organization supports its members in cultivating happy and healthy creative lives, as well as develops programming that fosters connection, collaboration, and merriment!
